Gray has represented Australia in nine International matches including Palma Teams in 1995, 1999 and 2003. Following in his father’s footsteps, he began shooting small bore at school, and later full bore at his local rifle club, Wurgabup.
Gray gained selection in several West Australian State Teams and one junior National Team before moving interstate and becoming a regular member of the South Australian State Team. On his return to WA in 2001, Gray joined with his former team mates in winning the National Teams Championships, a feat only performed once previously by his home state.
Individual highlights of Gray’s shooting career include winning the Western Australian Queen’s Prize in 2000 and 2005, and the WA Grand Aggregate in 2002 and 2005, emulating his captain’s ‘Triple’ 19 years earlier. More recently, Gray served as Vice-Captain of the winning Australia Match team of 2005, an event that he rates as one of the most challenging and emotionally draining of his shooting career.
Gray is a veterinarian and farmer who manages the family’s sheep and grain property in the south of Western Australia. His other interests include basketball, Australian Rules Football, Test Cricket and Formula One racing. Gray may also be found enjoying Thai cuisine, an odd bottle of Australian wine together with some pretty loud ‘alternate’ music and his guitar.
