As an Army Officer, Rex became serious about competitive shooting, initially concentrating on service shooting and later target rifle shooting. His selection in many shooting teams as Captain, Manager and shooter, has included numerous National Teams matches as well as international trips to Bisley UK, Little Rock USA, Trentham NZ, Bloemfontein RSA, Brunei and Edinburgh UK. In 1989 he was awarded a Commendation for his services to shooting in the Australian Defence Force by the Chief of the General Staff.
Rex was Manager of the Australian Team in Perth 1994 for the Australia Match, at Trentham for the Palma Match in 1995 and the victorious Australia Match Team at Belmont in 2005. In 1996 he became deeply involved with Cadet shooting and in 1998 he was Captain/Manager of the Australian Under 25 and Under 21 Teams which competed successfully at Trentham.
Rex administers full bore and small bore shooting in Queensland. He receives strong support from his wife Meredith who is an Army Reserve Officer and the best female shooter in the Army. In their spare time Rex and Meredith enjoy working as coaches and take great pleasure in assisting new and experienced shooters reach their highest potential. They live in Brisbane, Queensland and between them they have five children.
