Rick first captained Australia in 2005, leading the Team to victory in the Australia Match for the first time in 19 years against Great Britain and New Zealand. This was the training ground for a new Australian Team philopsophy which produced a record score in this event. He was well credentialled having led the West Australian team to victory in the National Teams Championship in 2001, winning the ‘Merrett Match’.
Rick has consistently been selected in Australian teams, including 1988, 1994, 1995, 2003 and 2005. This is his fourth Palma Team. Undoubtedly his most outstanding individual performance was winning the ‘Triple’ at Swanbourne WA in 1986, when he secured successive No. 1 badges for the Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen’s Prize and the Grand Aggregate. He has won around 60 Queen’s, Leadup and Grand Aggregate badges, crowned with a fifth badge won at Bisley UK in 2003. In his spare time Rick has won international team and individual silver medals in ISSF 300 Metre rifle events.
Rick resides in Perth where he is an Environmental Scientist with RPS. His favourite moments on rifle ranges include seeing his two daughters fire their first shots. Away from shooting, Rick holds a Black Belt in Kyokushin Karate; he also runs and cycles, and makes great home brewed beer. |
